How to uninstall or reinstall Verizon Internet Security Suite using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe)

This document explains how to remove and reinstall Verizon Internet Security Suite using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal (MCPR) tool. This option should only be used after you remove your software through Add/Remove Programs.

IMPORTANT: Running the MCPR (MCPR.exe) also removes Verizon Family Protection. You might have to provide your administrator credentials for this process.


  1. Uninstall Verizon Internet Security Suite and Family Protection using Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel:
    Windows 8
    1. Select the hot corner (Start button).
    2. Right-click the icon for the application you want to remove.
    3. Select Uninstall.
    Windows Vista/7
    1. Click Start, Search, type Programs and Features and click Go.
    2. Double-click Programs and Features.
    3. Select the program to uninstall.
    4. Click Uninstall and follow the steps provided.
    Windows XP
    1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
    3. Select the program to uninstall.
    4. Click Remove and follow the steps provided.   
  2. Download the MCPR tool:

    2. Click Save and save the file to a folder on your computer.
  3. Install the tool:
    1. Navigate to the folder where the file was saved.
    2. Ensure all Verizon and McAfee windows are closed.
    3. Double-click MCPR.exe to run the removal tool.
    NOTE: If you are a Windows 7 or Windows Vista user, you must right-click MCPR.exe and select Run as Administrator.
  4. After you see the message CleanUp Successful, restart your computer. Verizon Internet Security Suite is not fully removed until you restart your computer.
    NOTE: If you see the message Cleanup Unsuccessful, save your MCPR troubleshooting logs for analysis by Technical Support.
    How to save the troubleshooting logs
    1. From the Cleanup Unsuccessful notification dialog, click View Logs. You see your troubleshooting logs in a Notepad window.
    2. Click File, Save As, and save the file to your desktop. Name the file MCPR_<date>.txt (for example, MCPR_Jan10_08.txt).
    3. Contact Verizon Support and provide the log file to your technician for troubleshooting.
After you have removed the Verizon Internet Security Suite from your computer, reinstall the Suite and Family Protection. Go to to log on and download your software.
